Electronic delivery is the preferred transcript delivery method. Verify with your school if an electronic transcript is available. Electronic transcripts can be provided through external or third party vendors (Credential Solutions, eTranscriptCA, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, etc.). When ordering your transcript, please choose California State University San Marcos as the intended recipient from the school name dropdown. If California State University San Marcos is not listed, please use transcripts@csusm.edu as the recipient email address.

Revised/New Transcripts: Students submitting updated transcripts or transcripts from institutions not listed on the original application should email el@csusm.edu to indicate the transcript has been sent. Please include your full name, the school from which the transcript was sent and the program name of MSN.

International Students: All international transcripts and coursework must be submitted via postal mail. You must submit academic records from foreign institutions. The original foreign transcript must be on file and, if they are not written in English, they must be accompanied by certified English translations. In addition, all foreign transcripts must be evaluated by one of the eight approved CSUSM foreign transcript evaluation agencies. Please see the list of the eight approved CSUSM foreign transcript evaluation agencies.

Admission into the Master of Arts in Education, Educational Administration program requires meeting the general admission requirements graduate studies at CSUSM.

Step 4 – Supporting Documents

During the application process be prepared to submit the following:

  • A clear teaching credential
  • Official transcripts mailed directly from all colleges/universities attended
  • All applicants, regardless of citizenship, who do not possess a bachelor's degree from a postsecondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement. Typically, applicants demonstrate the English Proficiency requirement by submitting results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. Submission of these test scores should be sent to the following address:

  • Authorization to teach English Learners, such as SB 2042 or the CTEL/CLAD
  • Three years of successful, full-time experience in a public, nonpublic or private school of equivalent status for admission to the program and five years of experience to apply for the preliminary services credential. This experience may be teaching, pupil personnel work, librarianship, health services, or clinical or rehabilitative services. Substitute or part-time service does not apply.
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the candidate's work in the field of education
  • A writing prompt. This will be judged according to the University's Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR). You will choose one of the following prompts:
    • Describe the leadership skills have you developed prior to the Educational Administration program and what you hope to learn over the next two years as a practicing leader.
    • When you reflect on your current role in the workplace, describe how you are supporting educational equity and how you hope to expand that goal as a future leader.

  • All applicants, regardless of citizenship, who do not possess a bachelor's degree from a postsecondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement.   • Personal Statement: A typed, double-spaced, one-to-two page statement that tells about you and why you wish to pursue a master's degree in education. Things you might include are: your goals, ideals, experiences, special skills, community service.
    • Must be one to two pages
    • Times New Roman, 12-point font
    • Double space
